Magazine Ad

This design is one of my first projects. It is a magazine ad I did for the Sawdust Art Festival in Adobe Indesign.

My design principles and elements began with my color choices based on the colors in the Sawdust sign I pulled from their website. I used the eyedropper tool in order to establish those colors. Then I wanted to fade the picture into the background using the screen and gradient feather option in the effects menu in order to give a cool effect of one of their logos. I liked having the green border around the whole page to give it some symmetry and alignment. From there I used the pen tool to create leaves in the top right hand corner in order to simulate the leaves on the sawdust logo. I wanted to make everything seem relatively centered so when I added text, I chose not to make it too “all over the place”. I liked the way the dark purple looked instead of the black for the 2 headings for the contrast and to catch the eye of the reader. With regards to the text, I wanted to make 2 columns side by side instead of up and down to enhance the readability. I decided to use paint pallets as my bullet points for the list to go with the art theme of the festival. I included the drop shadow and inner shadow effect on the majority of the words because I wanted to add emphasis on what I wanted the reader to see first. My design appeals to my audience because the colors are not your typical colors from the color wheel. The large text and the picture will catch the reader’s eye as well as the type of font I have chosen. It’s not a boring font and looks “fun”, so anyone interested in traveling to a fun destination will be drawn in by this advertisement.
